The TD 2000 started life around 1984 when an Australian Jaguar Dealer acquired the tooling to build a TD replica. The TD 2000 story really got underway when production moved to Ararat, Victoria in 1986. Around 100 TD 2000s were built using Nissan Pintara running gear. Contemporary reports of the Australian-made TD 2000 sang its praises for its high build quality and properly developed chassis. But it is the combination of modern safety features and ease of driving with its traditional ‘wind in the hair’ ‘classic’ driving experience that gives the TD 2000 its unique appeal.

In 1989, Edward Teo, MD of TD Cars Malaysia purchased the assets and IP of TD Cars and moved production to Malaysia. Along with the move, the drive train was changed to contemporary Toyota products with the Japanese Celica ZR 3S-FE 2.0 litre fuel-injected 16-valve engine and matching five-speed manual transmission.

This TD 2000 is an August 2001 model, built around 18 months after production started in Malaysia and delivered new to its first owner in Sydney. The “TD Red” coachwork is set off beautifully by the 15” Chrome Wire Wheels and other bright work. The Interior with its contrasting Biscuit Leather trim is highlighted by the Burl Timber Dash Board, modern, comfortable seats and air conditioning. The folding Soft Top and Side Curtains are all in quality Black Fabric.

The TD 2000 has all the classic looks of the 1940’s MG TD but it is the mechanical package that really sets it apart. The performance of the 2 litre Toyota Twin Cam engine, couple to a 5 speed gearbox with the TD 2000 weighing well under 1,000 kg provides far superior performance than the MG TD on which it is based. This performance coupled with 4 wheel disc brakes and well developed suspension results in a package that goes, drives and stops like a modern car but with all the classic looks.

The comprehensive service history and receipts file accompanying the TD 2000 shows that the last service was carried out less than 150km ago.
