Continuing the Maserati tradition of naming their performance cars after desert winds and styled by Marcello Gandini, the Shamal introduced in 1989 was their flagship performance model. With its twin turbo AM479 V8 rated at 326 bhp and six speed Getrag 560G manual gearbox in the era the Shamal was in such exalted company as the contemporary Ferrari F40 however with two plus two practicality. The Shamal is extremely rare with only 369 units sold of which only 36 were right hand drive.

This Australian delivered Shamal was sold by the “House of Maserati” in Rose Bay NSW in February 1994 and retains its original books. Having travelled only 74,000km from new the original black leather interior with polished timber trims and unique Maserati clock still presents in excellent condition. The metallic black paintwork complements the whole package with the box arches and squat muscular appearance screaming late nineteen eighties and reminiscent of the rally conquering Lancia Delta Integrales or Audi Quattros of the World Rally Championship.

With rarity and performance this exciting modern classic Maserati would make an excellent addition to any collection of Italian cars and has definite investment potential however the new owner will find it very difficult to resist taking the long way home to fully enjoy the twin turbo V8 combined with great handling and brakes.
