In 1964 Ford caused a major disruption of the North American car market when it launched the Ford Mustang, thus creating the ‘Pony Car’ segment of the market. Ford caught its competitors by surprise and it took its major competitor, General Motors, 2 ½ years to catch up, but catch up they did, with the 1967 launch of the Chevrolet Camaro and its ‘F Body’ sister, the Pontiac Firebird. 1969 saw the launch of the now legendary Pontiac Firebird TransAm. The Camaro and the Firebird continued as GM siblings through 4 generations and 35 years until the Firebird was axed in 2002.

The Pontiac Firebird TransAm’s legend was bolstered by its major roles on the silver screen, most famously in Smokey and the Bandit followed by a long run as KITT in the television series, Knight Rider. This 1986 3rd Generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is a slightly later than the 1982 model driven by Michael Knight but the same generation.

This 1986 Pontiac Firebird TransAm was built in October 1985 in Norwood, Ohio and Delivered in Australia as a New car by Chapel Conversions in March 1986, which was a Rare opportunity to obtain a new American Icon. Finished in Pontiac Bright Red with the Silver TransAm accents, factory 16” 20 Slot Alloy Wheels and a Black glass T Top, the Firebird presents well in what appears to be its Original Paint. The Interior is a very Comfortable place to be with its very 80’s two tone Grey Velour trim, a Leather covered TransAm steering wheel, Central Locking, Electric Windows, Air Conditioning, Eurovox radio/cassette player and for convenience there are Electrically adjustable Door Mirrors, a Split Fold rear seat and a Retractable Cover for the rear luggage area.

Under the bonnet you will find the LG4 305ci V8, the Largest Engine available by 1986, running through a Turbo Hydramatic 4 Speed Automatic Transmission and 4 wheel disc Brakes to slow things down when needed.
