1979 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER
LMCT 7819
SN:3975
FIRST YEAR – AUSTRALIAN CKD ‘2 DOOR RANGEY’
The Range Rover was Developed in the Mid 60’s in an Attempt to break into the New Emerging 4×4 Utility Vehicle Market with the Production of the Range Rover running from 1969 to 1996. The Traditional Leaf Springs used in Land Rovers were Abandoned in favour of Long Travel Coil Spring Suspension which Allowed Excellent Ride Characteristics Both On and Off-Road.
The Lightweight 3.5 Litre Alloy V8, Coupled to the 4 Speed Manual Gearbox Driving Through the Twin Range Transfer Case, Centre Diff Lock and Constant Four Wheel Drive provided Suitable Ratios for All Occasions. In keeping with its Land Rover Heritage the Majority of the Exterior Body Panels are Lightweight Aluminium. With Better Performance than Average and a Towing Capacity of 3.5 Tonnes it was Obvious Why the Range Rover was Marketed as ‘A Car For All Reasons’.
This Suffix ‘F’ 1979 Range Rover Classic was Built in Australia During the First Year of Local CKD Assembly, at the Leyland Australia plant at Enfield, NSW where Production would Continue Until 1983. Finished in its Original Sahara Dust Exterior with the Interior Trimmed in Sandy Beige Ambla Leathercoth, Brushed Nylon Seats and Matching Carpets.
Easily Manoeuvrable at All Speeds, both On and Off-Road Due to the Rangey’s Power Steering, this Range Rover still Drives Well, Delivering Excellent Period Performance, aided by the Lumenition Electronic Distributor Providing Reliable Maintenance Free Ignition.
Presenting Well, as an Honest Survivor, the Mechanical Package and Structure of the ‘2 Door’ are both Sound and Strong, with the Final Presentation Leaving Room for Cosmetic Attention should You Desire, or Just Drive and Enjoy a Great All-Rounder.
The 2 Door Range Rover Classic has been Becoming More Sought After as a Collectable Classic, with Collectors Appreciating its Appeal as a Truly Stylish, Practical and Well Engineered SUV Well Before it’s Time, “A Car for All Reasons”. As is Often the Case with Classics, Enthusiasts see the First of the Model as being the Purest in its Form, with Later Models being Adorned with Unnecessary Add-Ons.
