AUSTRALIAN ROSSO CORSA LIGHTWEIGHT

Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina to both replace the 206/246 Dino (of his design) and sit alongside Bertone’s 308 GT4 the Ferrari 308 GTB was introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show. The Initial release saw Carrozzeria Scaglietti take the unusual step to produce the new Ferrari’s bodywork in Vetroresina (Fiberglass), a Lightweight Composite Material, thus allowing the total weight of the 308GTB to be just 1,050kg!

Underneath the Vetroresina bodywork was a Tubular chassis supporting a Mid-Mounted Transverse 2927cc V8 engine designed by Vittorio Jano, equipped with Quad Weber Carburettors and driven through a 5 speed Transaxle Gearbox.

Just 712 Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina’s were built (representing just 3.44% of the “3_8” Range), with Ferrari switching to steel bodies in July of 1977. The new Steel bodied 308 hit the scales near 150kg heavier, affecting the outright performance of the Sports Car and ultimately reducing the longevity due to corrosion issues, as Ferrari did not start using Galvanised Steel untill 1983.

This 1977 Rosso Corsa Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina is an Exceptionally Rare, Australian Delivered example in Factory Right Hand Drive with a Wet Sump, offered Only to Australia and Japan. The interior trim has been maintained to a Very High Standard, with the Accented Black and Red seats providing a Very Comfortable take on the Italian ‘Laid Back’ seating position.

With single ownership since the 9th of September 2005, this 308 GTB has had No Expense Spared on it’s maintenance, with more than $46,000 worth of invoices supplied up until January 2018, with further invoices dating back till the 29th of October 2003 showing $37,000+ spent on an Extensive Overhaul including, but not limited to an Engine Rebuild, Uprated Ignition and a new Clutch.
