RESTORED YELLOW BEAUTY, ONE OF THE LAST

Introduced in April 1965, the Phase III BJ8 (3000 MkIII) was the last Production 6 cylinder Austin Healey Update. The BJ8 Interior Trim was a More Luxurious Standard than previous with a Burr Walnut Veneer dash, Wind Up Windows, and a ‘One Touch’ Convertible Hood with Zip-Out Rear Window. The performance from the 150hp 3 Litre 6 Cylinder Engine was a Far Cry from the 90hp 2.6 Litre 4 Cylinder Engine of the first Austin Healey, the 100 introduced in 1952.

This 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MkIII was built in October 1967, despatched from the Abingdon Factory on 21st November 1967 and was one of the last 200 big Austin Healeys built with series production ceasing in November/December 1967.

The coachwork is finished in Pastel Yellow, highlighted by 72 spoke Chrome Wire Wheels and Gleaming Brightwork along with a pair of 5″ Lucas Driving Lights mounted on the Chrome Badge Bar. The Bonnet has been Louvred and the Front Guards have Rally Style Vents, Improving Under Bonnet Airflow and reducing engine bay temperature. The Interior Trim is in Original Pattern Contrasting Black, the cockpit featuring an Original Smiths Heater, a Leather Bound MotoLita Steering Wheel, Wooden Gear Knob and a Burl Walnut Dash with an extended rear view mirror sitting on top to give improved rearward visibility. The One Touch Hood and Hood Cover are both Quality Black Fabric, while the Tonneau is in Black Vinyl as original.

This BJ8 was subject to an extensive restoration between 2005 and 2007 with over 2,600 hours of work to bring it up to the outstanding condition that it is still in today. There is an accompanying receipt file documenting this work and the maintenance work since.

During the restoration and subsequently, a number of Reliability Improvements have been made including an Alternator, Scorcher Electronic Ignition and Extractor Exhaust for Improved Starting and Running, whilst Engine Cooling is Improved with a Texas Kooler Engine Fan. Servicing is Easier with a Spin-On Oil Filter Conversion and the Front Suspension has been Upgraded with the fitting of a Koni Telescopic Shock Absorber Conversion which greatly improves Ride and Roadholding.

This well presented, Restored BJ8 is a Reliable, Comfortable Sports Car with Long Legged Touring Ability, whilst still delivering Great Period Performance it’s ideal for an Exhilarating Run through the hills or maybe just your morning coffee run. An Iconic model of the Austin Healey marque that you can really Enjoy.
