INDEPENDENT REAR SUSPENSION & OVERDRIVE
Giovanni Michelotti was Tasked with Redesigning Triumph’s Successful TR3, the Renowned Italian Designer’s Vision Resulted in a More Masculine Two-Seater Featuring Wind-Up Windows, Improved Cabin Space and Comfort, to be Released in 1961 as the TR4.
The New TR4 had a number of Key Mechanical Improvements Including: a Wider Track Front and Rear, Slightly Larger Engine Displacement, Synchromesh on All Forward Gears, and Rack and Pinion Steering.
The TR4A, Released in 1965 Benefited from an Improved Cylinder Head Design, Providing a Significant 10% Increase in Power! The Live Rear Axle Found on All Previous Triumph TR’s was Replaced with a New Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) using Coil Springs and Semi-Trailing Arms.
This ‘Triumph Racing Green’ TR4A Presents Well, with the Paintwork Holding a Strong Lustre, However on Closer Inspection Shrink Marks are Evident, as well as Shrink Related Cracks. The White Piped, Black Interior is Finished to a High Standard, and is Well Protected from the Elements by the Near New, Unmarked Tonneau Cover and Fabric Soft-Top (with Bikini Cover for Stowage).
Mechanically in Sound Condition, with the Gearbox and Overdrive Operating Without Fault, the Torque driven 2.2L Inline Four Cylinder Engine is Capable of Providing the True British Roadster Experience. Factory Fitted with Rack and Pinion Steering and Upgraded to Power Assisted Brakes, the TR4A Feels Comfortable Winding Through the Back-Roads, as well as in 4th Overdrive Cruising down the Free-way.
