An English engineer and racing driver, Ken Costello, decided to create a performance car by fitting an all alloy Rover 3.5 litre V8 into the popular MGB GT. Following in the footsteps of Ken, this 1964 MGB received a heart transplant to replace the 1798cc 4 cylinder engine with the ubiquitous Rover 3.5L V8, with the roadster engineered and issued with a South Australian Modification Plate in 1998, just as Ken had done prior to MG producing the factory MGB GT V8 in 1973.

Utilising an early Mark I roadster body, with the preferred uncompressed styling, the restorations and modifications undertaken on this MG B were comprehensive, finished in Burgundy running on 15 x 6” 10 spoke Performance alloy wheels.

The recently re-trimmed Black Leather seats with Monza Red piping are accented by a Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel and recoil lap/sash seat belts. Stowed in the boot are both the fabric soft top and tonneau cover, providing ample weather protection when necessary.

The Rover V8 is fitted with a Haltech F9 ECU EFI system, extractors, ceramic coated stainless steel exhaust and a thermo fan. Following a 2024 tune, the accompanying dyno sheet shows more than adequate power of over 100 rear wheel kW, transmitted through a Toyota 5-speed gearbox to a BorgWarner differential, with stopping power supplied by the uprated power assisted discs all round (front ventilated), and the rear suspension features telescopic shockers.

In 2024/25 ~$31k was spent at ‘Plus Four Automotive Services’ to significantly improve the B, including repairs to the chassis & castle rail, outriggers, inner sills, cross member and new floors; the front suspension was re-built and the brake booster and water pump were replaced. In addition a basic service was completed by The Healey Factory in early 2026.

With a well presented interior and burble of the Rover V8, this is an MG that you will want to just get in, drive and really enjoy.
