The Hillman Imp was Developed during the European manufacturer’s rush to have a Small Car in their line up during the Petrol Crisis of the early 1960’s. The Design Criteria for the was that it must seat 2 adults and 2 children, be Capable of 60mph and 60mpg, be Rear Engined and be Fun to Drive.

The Hillman Imp was launched in 1963 with an All Aluminium, 875cc version of the Famous Coventry Climax engine coupled with a 4 speed gearbox and Independent Front and Rear Suspension. Rootes Group had achieved most of their Design Criteria, especially the need to be Fun to Drive. The Hillman Imp was very Successful in Competition with Several Rally Wins and 3 Successive British Saloon Car Championships. The by then, Chrysler UK ended up keeping the Hillman Imp in Production until 1976.

This Hillman Imp was built at the Dedicated Plant in Linwood, Scotland in 1964. The Imp was Restored with a Bare Metal Respray and Full Mechanical Rebuild in the early 1990’s. With Historic Rallying in mind and the Engine was Rebuilt to 905cc with a Hotter Camshaft, a Performance Head, Balancing, Factory Designed Extractors and twin 40mm DCOE Webers. The Suspension Was been Upgraded with the addition of Koni Shock Absorbers and 13” Minilite style Alloy Wheels.

The Imp has both a CAMS and Historic Rally Association log books and had competed in a Couple of Events in the 1990’s. It is ready for some more Historic Rallying, Driving on Twisting Roads or weekend club gatherings.
