THE 13th BJ8 – EXPERTLY RESTORED

The 3000 MkIII (BJ8) was the Final Evolution of Austin’s “Big Healey” Range, with their Enduring Style a Testament to Donald Healey’s Vision, as the Silhouette of the Model Changed Very Little from the Original Austin Healey 100 of 1952. Over 12 years the Interior Trim Level, Cockpit Fittings and Weather Equipment Improved to meet Growing Market Expectations. The Power Output of the MkIII’s 6 Cylinder Engine was Rated at 150 BHP, making it the Most Powerful of the Entire Range.

This Colorado Red 3000 MkIII was Delivered New on the 29th of April 1964, to Kenneth Overmire of San Francisco, California USA, with the Chassis Number HBJ8L/25327, Showing this BJ8 to be Just The 13th Built! Retained until 1977 when the Healey was Sold to Dan Emerson of Springfield Missouri, with the BJ8 Eventually Made it’s Way to Australia, Landing in 1988, Accompanied by it’s Original BMC ‘Passport To Service’.

The Healey has Remained in Single Ownership Since Arriving in Australia, and was Comprehensively Restored by The Healey Factory, Resulting in Multiple Concours Awards, including: ‘Best Austin Healey 3000 MkIII’ in 1998 and 2002, as well as Class Winner and People’s Choice Winner in various other events.

Finished in it’s Original Colorado Red, Highlighted by Sparkling Chrome Wire Wheels and Brilliant Brightwork, the Interior Presents Smartly, in Classic Black with the Added Tolerance for Headrests on the Front Seats and a 15” Wood Rimmed Moto Lita Steering Wheel. Equipment such as Wind-Up Windows, an Adjustable Steering Column, ‘One-Touch’ Quality Fabric Convertible Hood with a Zip Out Rear Window and an Original Smiths Heater make this BJ8 an Ideal Classic to be Enjoyed All Year Round.

During the Restoration a Number of Upgrades were Made to Improve Driveability, Reliability, Safety and Roadholding, these Included: Electronic Ignition, Fitment of an Alternator, Hi Torque Starter Motor, Telescopic Koni Shock Absorbers Front & Rear, Twin Fuel Pumps, Spin-On Oil Filter Conversion, a Texas Kooler Fan, 3.54 Ratio Differential, High Mount Third Brake Light and Separate Rear Indicators (Replacing the Rear Reflectors).
