1960 AUSTIN HEALEY SPRITE MKI
(To be sold UN-Registered & with Vic RWC)
AN AERODYNAMIC ORANGE BUG(EYE)
The Austin Healey Sprite was Conceived as a Low Cost, Entry Level Two Seater Sports Car, Designed by Healey and Styled by Gerry Coker, who had Earlier Penned the Stunning and Stylish Austin Healey 100. With its Iconic Styling Featuring Fixed Headlights Mounted Atop the Bonnet, it is Self Explanatory as to how the Nicknames ”Frog Eye” and ”Bug Eye” Originated.
Originally Finished in Carnation Red, after arriving in Australia as a Bare Primer CKD Unit, having been Assembled in the UK on 18th January 1960, and despatched on the 22nd of January 1960. Now Finished in Eye Catching Bright Orange with a Colour Matched Headrest Fairing in Similar vein to that seem on the Jaguar D-Type, this Bugeye Demands Attention wherever it goes.
Retaining its Original Steel Bonnet and Steel Disc Wheels, the Styling of the Little Sprite has taken a Much More Sporting Theme, with the Headrest Fairing Complemented by Twin Aero-Screens Replacing Original Windscreen Separated by an Aerodynamic High-Rise Centre Mirror. All of which could be Easily Removed, with Just a New Windscreen and Mirror Returning the Healey back to Standard Specification.
Having been Uprated with a Later Mk3 Sprite 1098cc Engine and Rib-Case Gearbox, the Orange MkI has Great Period Performance, Supported by the Addition of a 40DCOE Weber Carburettor, Extractor Exhaust System (Finished by a Termignoni Muffler), Aluminium Radiator and Electric Cooling Fan.
Not for the Feint of Heart, this Sprite is Destined to Stand Out in a Crowd, Spreading Smiles to all of those Who Pass By it, as well as those who Jump into the Cockpit and take it for a Spirited Jaunt.
