FULLY RESTORED 3.2L WITH SENSIBLE UPGRADES

The 3000 MkI was the first Austin Healey to use the new 3 Litre version of the BMC ā€˜C’ Series engine (2912cc), with its increased capacity, 12 port cylinder head design and front disc brakes, the performance of the 3000 was noticeably superior to its predecessor, the 100/6 with it’s 2639cc engine and four wheel drum brakes.

This 3000 MkI BT7 was built on 11-12 June 1959, destined for San Francisco USA, where it resided until the 90’s, arriving in Australia the new, and only Australian owner commissioned a comprehensive, full restoration in 1997, carried out by ā€˜The Healey Factory’. The accompanying invoice file confirms details/specifications of the restoration, whilst the Heritage Certificate affirms the identity of the Healey.

The BT7 is finished in the duo-tone combination of Dark Blue over Old English White, highlighted by sparkling chrome wire wheels. The cockpit is beautifully trimmed by Garry Blackman in Cream, with Connolly leather seats and contrasting Blue English carpets and features RPM 4-point harness belts, a 15ā€ Moto-Lita wood rimmed steering wheel and a ā€˜Rally’ gear-knob incorporating overdrive switch. The soft top hood is in Dark Blue ā€˜Stay Fast’ fabric as is the tonneau cover, while the side-screens are the sliding perspex type.

The engine re-build received the best of the best, with the block bored to 87.5mm (resulting in a 3207cc capacity), compression was raised to 10.1:1, an alloy DMD cylinder head was installed with matched DMD triple carb manifold, sporting 2ā€ HD8 SU Carburettors and an extractor exhaust system was installed (ceramic coated). Supporting the vastly improved performance, the Healey was also fitted with, a cable throttle conversion, a Bosch distributor (points), a spin-on oil filter conversion, a Hi-Torque starter motor, an alloy radiator and a ā€˜Texas Kooler’ fan.

Other improvements include the fitment of a rebuilt ā€˜centre shift’ gearbox, 4 piston brake calipers on ventilated front discs, the addition of a brake booster, Halogen H4 headlamps, twin driving lamps mounted to a chrome badge bar, an alloy fuel tank and a flip-top fuel filler.

This Healey Factory restored 3000 MkI BT7, drives exceptionally well, enhanced by the glorious torque produced from the 3.2L engine. This combination provides excellent performance for the enthusiast driver, whether it be an exhilarating blast through the hills or a more sedate cruise, this Healey will always put a smile on your face.
