A CLASSIC COUPE IN BURGUNDY

Following the Success of the XK120, Jaguar Released the XK140 in 1954 (Sold as a 1955 Year Model), with Major Updates to Both the Drivability and Performance, including Increased Cabin Space – Allowing for Taller Drivers, Rack and Pinion Steering, Improved Brakes and the Fitment of Telescopic Shock Absorbers.

Built in Three Body Styles, known as a: Fixed Head Coupe, Open Two Seater or Drop Head Coupe, this Jaguar Original Right Hand Drive FHC is one of 839 RHD units out of a Total of 2798 FHC’s produced. Total XK140 production was 8937 cars of which only 1392 were RHD.

This XK140 FHC was Sold New to Mr. John Britton of Kings Heath, Birmingham, UK in March 1956 and Registered RJW935. In around 1976 it was sold to Mr. David Ryan of Woodland Hills, California USA. It resided in the US until 1988 was finally imported into Australia according to the Australian Customs Entry Sheet, and was scheduled to arrived in Melbourne around 3rd December 1988. It was subsequently registered in Victoria with the number GXK-140 and is believed to have had 2 or 3 other owners since its arrival.

It was acquired by the most recent owner in Australia in 1998 and from the accompanying receipt file it would appear that at some time previous, the Original 3.4 Litre Engine had been replaced with a 3.8 Litre engine from a Mk2 Jaguar. In 1999 the owner embarked on a Comprehensive Long Term Restoration of the XK140 the Details of which are included in the Receipt File. The Engine was replaced with another 3.8 Litre unit from a ‘S’ Type which had New Pistons, and a Fully Reconditioned Cylinder Head. The Overdrive and Gearbox were also Reconditioned. The Brakes have been upgraded with Power-Assisted Discs at the front providing much more confident braking performance.

The XK140 presents well finished in Burgundy with ‘Palomino’ Trim, all highlighted with Excellent Brightwork and sits proudly on correct 16’’ Painted Wire Wheels. The Cockpit Interior oozes the Elegance of the 50’s with the Burr Walnut Door Cappings, and the Dash with the Classic Styling of the Smiths Instruments, the Smell of the Leather and the Feel of Quality Carpets.
