This MG TF Special was built in 1976 by Mr. A Paterson in Adelaide, South Australia into its current Race-Car form, with its’ Category 5, Class L (a) & L (b) Cams Log Books showing consistent race use from March 1978 to August 1991, before more sporadic use until 2007. Starting in 2009, the TF was ‘domesticated for road use’, mechanically restored and suitably upgraded.

Body: Aluminium 2 seat special boat tail bodywork, as per 1976 build, twin ‘Brooklands’ areoscreens.

Cockpit: Twin bucket seats, 4 point 3″ ‘Willans’ race harness, full width CAMS approved rollbar, ‘Bluemels Brooklands’ steering wheel, custom turned aluminium dashboard.

Engine: 1466cc XPEG block, bored to 1528cc, custom ‘Crankshaft Rebuilders’ billet crankshaft, custom ‘Argo’ conrods, custom ‘Special Piston Services’ forged pistons, ‘Clive Cams’ camshaft (0.281” in/ex lift, 219° duration, 114° lobe separation), ‘Crankshaft Rebuilders’ rebuilt head (Holden inlet and exhaust valves). Dyno Tested March 2020 with 69.8 rear wheel kW @ 5,200rpm (the max RPM tested, still climbing).

Fuel System: Gil Taylor designed supercharger kit, consisting of a Toyota SC14 Super charger and a single 2” SU carburettor, reported to be running at ~10psi.

Exhaust: Hans Pedersen of ‘High Performance Products’ designed 4-1 extractors into a single side pipe.

Cooling System: MG TF radiator, electric cooling fan.

Gearbox: ‘Old Car Gearboxes’ (John Needham) built 4 speed helical cut close ratio (2.76 – 1.84 – 1.33 – 1.00) MG TF box, steel lightweight flywheel, MGB diaphragm clutch.

Electrical: Generator, hi-torque starter, digital tachometer.

Front Suspension: Custom lightened lower wishbones, and spring plate, uprated sway bar, lever arm shock absorbers.

Rear Suspension: Leaf spring, tramp rods, lever arm shock absorbers.

Differential: MG A differential, Quaife LSD, 4.3:1.

Wheels: 15×4” 60 Spoke dark blue painted wire wheels.
Brakes: Dual circuit, four wheel hydraulic drum brakes, with finned aluminium drums (Datsun).

This MG would suit the enthusiast buyer who appreciates the opportunity to own and compete in a period race-car, without going through the hardship of the development and build cost.
