THREE SEAT CONCOURS WINNER

The RMC was a limited edition, hand built roadster, primarily designed for the North American market, considered one of the last ‘proper Rileys’ before the marque became part of the British Motor corporation. In essence it was a 2-door version of the RMB saloon with cutaway doors, sloping tail a fold down hood, fold flat windscreen and room for 3 with its wide bench seat. There were 507 roadsters built between 1949 and 1952 and it is believed that 97 were exported to Australia, making it a rare vehicle.

This example was delivered to a Sydney buyer in March 1949 and moved to Melbourne shortly afterwards. It changed hands in 1984 and was subject to a major ground up restoration by Unique Automotive Restorations in Cheltenham completed in 1992, including sandblasting the chassis and new timbers as required. Paint was by Peter Todd of Morrabbin whilst the interior and fabric roof was remade by Blackman & Sons of East Bentleigh.

The 2.5L engine had a claimed output of 100 b.h.p. with power transmitted by a close ratio 4-speed gearbox, whilst the light steering is rack and pinion and the brakes are Girling Hydromesh, hydrolic at the front and mechanical at the rear.

The Riley was awarded ‘Best Outright’ in the Riley Club Concours in 1992 and 1993 and acquired by its most recent owner in 1993 who has maintained its condition and presentation both internally and externally. This stunning example of a classic post war roadster presents a great opportunity as you will not find a better Riley RMC. Enjoy the classic performance, style and elegance that only comes with a car of this standard.
