SINGLE OWNER TD SINCE 1966

The MGTD was produced between 1949 and 1953 with almost 30,000 units coming off the Abingdon production line of which some 90% were exported. The TD was a natural successor to the already very successful TC which was by then clearly showing its ageing roots. Whilst maintaining the classic square rigger inspired styling of the previous models it featured a Stiffer Chassis and much Improved, up to date Suspension and Steering. In a strange departure from historical styling, the TD was only available with Disc Wheels, Wire Wheels were subsequently reintroduced in the MG TF in 1953

This lovely Black 1949 TD has been lovingly cared for by its MG enthusiast family since 1966 and enjoyed many years of spirited use in MG Car Club events for which it is well known and is attested for by the many trophies that accompany the car from many years of enjoyment.

A file accompanying the TD contains many invoices for Maintenance and Service much of which was carried out by MG Specialist- Ray Skewes Automotive. A receipt from Crankshaft Rebuilders confirms the Cylinder Boring, Piston Machining, fitting and balancing as well as other Machining work. There is more Wonderful History in the form of a number of Period Photographs and the File also contains a fascinating Article Published in the ‘Drive’ column of ‘The Age’ of June 2006 Detailing various Aspects of the TD’s Life since being purchased by Perry McNeilage in 1966.

The TD presents well, finished in Black with the Interior Trim and Dashboard trimmed in Contrasting Cream and the Weather Equipment in Cream/Beige. Whilst the Wire Wheels may not be correct on a TD they do add to the Classic MG style and the TD is otherwise very much original in its presentation and mechanical specification and drives well.
