100 YEARS OF PROVENANCE

The Sunbeam Motor Car Company Ltd was formed in 1905 after initially making bicycles. Production of the 14/40 began in 1924 and ~2,850 examples were built over a 2 year period at Moorfield Works, the original Sunbeam factory in Wolverhampton, England. Multiple body styles included a two or five seat Tourer, a Coupe, Sports model or Saloon.

This 14/40 from 1926 is a four door, five seat Tourer with four wheel brakes, the Coachwork is finished in Claret with Black wings and rides on 21” Dunlop Triple Laced spoke wheels, unique to 1926. The contrasting interior trim is finished in Black leather with matching door cards and red carpets whilst the weather equipment consists of a Dark Grey fabric roof, side curtains and full toneau cover.

The four cylinder engine was re-built by the respected ‘Up the Creek Workshop’ of Castlemaine between 2014-16, and capacity was increased from the standard 2,121cc to 2,250cc. When combined with the 14/40’s 4-speed, open gate, right hand change ‘crash’ gearbox from a 1929 Sunbeam and re-built differential (2019), usable performance is available. Sensible modifications include an electric fuel pump, balanced crankshaft, lightened flywheel and full-flow oil filter. The electrics were re-wired in 2020 when LED lights were installed, all in Rotex housings.

This rare 1926 Sunbeam has great presence on the road. With 100 years of provenance, this 14/40 is supported by a history file including substantial mechanical work completed since 2014, providing you an opportunity to enjoy a pre-war Sports Tourer.
