RARE AUSSIE MkII CONCOURS WINNER

When the MGA was introduced it created a sensation among MG enthusiasts for its sleek and modern styling. It offered superior comfort, performance and handling over the ‘T’ series MG’s. With over 100,000 A Types built it was the most popular MG to date. The MkII represents the final and most developed evolution of the A, featuring the larger 1622cc engine providing improved performance. Australian assembled examples were limited to 172 between 1961 and 62.

This rare MkII received a full ‘nut & bolt’ restoration in the early 90s by ‘MGA Specialist Services’ of Somerville Victoria, with corresponding receipts just shy of $60k as well as photographic history. The A appears to have been used sparingly with recorded mileage readings of 17,000 in 1991, 33,174 in 2005 and the odometer displays 45,000 in 2026! The quality restoration was done to a level that the roadster achieved 1st place in the MG Car Club Victoria, Concours D’Elegance in 2024 and 2025.

This MGA presents well with its Red coachwork set off by the gleaming chrome grille along with its Silver, painted wire wheels. The cabin features contrasting Tan trim with Black carpets, original steering wheel and rubber floor mats. Included weather equipment consists of a full tonneau cover, side screens and hood, all in vinyl, in excellent condition.

The lively 1622cc four cylinder engine coupled to the precise four speed gearbox provides good period performance, ably matched by the good handling that these new ‘A’ types provided. This A will allow you to enjoy a true British classic sports car, cruising the open road or winding through the hills using your driving skills to make every drive an exciting new experience.
