Established in 1981 by Jeremy Phillips, based in Lincolnshire England, ‘Sylva Autokits’ designed, engineered and developed a number of lightweight sportscars, initialy designed to use donor cars, then later purpose built chassis/suspension and bodywork, only requiring donor driveline components.
Originally built and registered in the UK in 2006, this Phoenix was privately imported into Australia when the builder emigrated in 2010, receiving full Australian compliance in July 2010, allowing the Sylva to be registered anywhere in Australia without issue.
Weighing around 600kg, with a claimed 135+kW from the Vauxhall Redtop featuring ‘Kent Cams’ AST1612 camshafts and Megasquirt V3 EFI fed through Suzuki GSXR individual throttle bodies, this Phoenix will give you all the adrenaline of a sportsbike, while providing the stability and confidence of 4 wheels.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a Ford Type 9, 5 speed gearbox, fitted with a ‘BGH’ sporting close ratio gearset, through a 3.92:1 Ford Sierra LSD, a superb combination!
Utilising Ford Sierra front uprights, the Sylva is fitted with ‘Hi-Spec Motorsport Ultralite 4’ front 4 piston brake calipers, while the rear sports a set of single piston calipers on drilled and slotted discs.
Fantastic roadholding is achieved through the combination of Spax adjustable coilovers front & rear as well as lightweight Caterham alloy wheels shod in Nankang Sportnex NS-2R road legal semi-slick tyres.
In 2021 Modern Klassic Sportscars bought the rights to the remaining Sylva lineup, including factory Phoenix body molds and componentry, allowing peace of mind for the next owner, with new full front/rear bodywork sections available for £1,416.65 each.
