TRIUMPH’S LAST TR, IN CONCOURS CONDITION
First Conceived Back in 1972, Two Years Before the TR7 was to be Introduced, the Research Team at Triumph were Already Testing and Prototyping with the New Platform and looking at the Possibility of Fitting a V8 Engine into the 4 Cylinder Engine Bay. The Engine of Choice was Rover’s All Aluminium 3.5L V8, producing 133 BHP at a Weight of Just 170kg, Allowing the Harris Mann Designed Wedge to have a Highly Favourable Power to Weight Ratio.
Delivered New to Honolulu Hawaii in October of 1980, this Factory TR8 was Later Resettled to California before is was Shipped to Australia in January of 1996. Once in Australia the TR8 was Used Sparingly and Stored Away Until 2007, when now in Poor Condition the Triumph was Sold & Given a Second Lease on Life.
Under New Ownership the TR was Completely Stripped Down to a Bare Body Mounted on a Rotisserie, before being Meticulously Restored. The Bodywork was Finished in Ice Blue Metallic, the Cockpit Completely Retrimmed and the Complete Mechanical Package Stripped, Cleaned, Rebuilt and Reinstalled.
The Quality of the Owner’s Restoration was such that the TR8 Won the TR7-TR8 Class at the Triumph Sports Owners Association’s ‘Concours d’Elegance’ in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
