SHARP SEVENTIES SPITFIRE
The Triumph Spitfire, named after the Supermarine Spitfire fighter plane from WWII was built from 1962 through to 1980 using ‘body on frame’ construction with approximately 315,000 examples produced, competing against the Austin Healey Sprite and MG Midget. In 1973 in the United States and Canada, and 1975 in the rest of the world, the 1500 engine was introduced, still utilising the MkIV body to make the final incarnation, the Spitfire 1500.
This 1500 is an excellent example, finished in its original colour of Inca Yellow with contrasting black vinyl softtop and tonneau cover, all in good condition. The Black interior trim presents very well with comfortable original seats, refreshed carpets throughout, a lovely wooden dash and period correct wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel.
Originally a U.S. spec model, the Spitfire benefits from the Twin SU carburettor conversion replacing the original single Stromberg unit, fitment of double row valve springs in the cylinder head and stainless steel extractors feeding the twin box exhaust system creating a pleasant burble sound.
Supported by an invoice history file spanning 14 years, this Spitfire has been lovingly maintained and performs well on the road with a strong revving engine and smooth gear shift, providing an opportunity to experience a true classic 70’s sports roadster at its best, at an affordable price.
