FIRST GEN TRUENO, NOT YOUR MUM’S COROLLA!
With a name plate that translates to ‘Thunder’ in Spanish, the first generation Toyota Sprinter Trueno was introduced in 1972, with it’s production run lasting until just 1974. Built on the KE20 Corolla platform, with the top specification Celica’s running gear.
At the heart of this Trueno, is the Celica 1600GT’s 1.6L 2TG, akin to the Lotus Cortina’s 1.6L Kent, the Toyota’s 2TG featured a Yamaha designed, alloy, twin overhead cam head, featuring twin side draft carburettors, a formula that increased the 2T’s performance from 55kW to 85kW, driven through the T50 5 speed gearbox to the factory LSD.
Factory fitted with steel guard flares and unique bodywork front and rear, this ‘Daytona Olive’ TE27 Trueno now features a set of 13” Volk Racing Mesh 3-Piece alloys wheels, 8.5” wide on the front and 10” wide on the rear. (A set of 13×7” can be made available if required.)
Mechanically this Sprinter is equipped with uprated Mikuni/Solex 44PHH twin choke side draft carburettors, high rise extractors running into a sports exhaust system, capacitor discharge ignition, TRD & HKS camshafts and TRD green rear shock absorbers.
Driving and performing exceptionally well, this Trueno is thought to be one of only 5 in Australia (all private imports), providing a very rare and exiting opportunity for the next enthusiastic owner.
