WELL RESTORED 351ci SUPER RHINO

Introduced in October of 1970, the Ford XY series was the fourth & final iteration of the second generation Falcon, a face-lifted and improved XW. The range topping ‘GT’ model, only available in a high performance 4V 4bbl 351ci equipped sports sedan featured a ‘Shaker’ cold air induction scoop protruding through the bonnet, wore twin wide GT stripes on the bonnet, thick side stripes, blacked out rear panel and twin driving lights.

From 1962 onwards, Ford South Africa removed the Falcon name plate from their market, with the higher spec Fairmont name assigned to all Falcon derived sedans. The Fairmont GT was built at Ford’s plant in Geelong, Victoria and assembled in Port Elizabeth, South Africa from a ‘Complete Knock Down’ kit to the same specifications as the Australian Falcon GT.

This ‘Super Rhino’, a genuine GT with factory stamped shock tower and correct build plate on the radiator support panel, is finished in its original colour of ‘Maize’ (Yellow Ochre), complete with owner’s manual and original service books, was delivered new by ‘Ritchie Motors’ of Standerton, South Africa, on 6 November 1972.

Imported to Australia in 2004, the XY presents as a well restored example, with its optional vinyl roof, correct 14” 5-slot steel wheels & stainless hub caps, as well as its factory standard interior in excellent condition, including it’s original AM radio and ‘rim blow’ steering wheel.

Now fitted with a Ford 4-speed Toploader manual, there is ample power from the Cleveland 351ci V8, supported by a 650cfm Holley 4 barrel carburettor, Scorcher electronic ignition, a brake booster and importantly power steering.

This Australian built, South African assembled, XY GT V8 muscle car is ready to be used and enjoyed by its next enthusiastic owner.
