The Austin Healey Sprite created a huge stir when introduced in 1958 as a low cost, Fun Sports Car. By 1964 the Sprite had evolved into a much more Modern Car, Now Equipped with Wind Up Windows, Quarter Vents, External Door Handles and a Curved Glass Windscreen, while Mechanically, the 1098cc motor was Improved, with better casting and 2” Main Bearings, the Rear Suspension also benefited from Semi-Elliptic Leaf Springs.
This Sprite is a MkIIIA, which was an update model of the MkIII, signified by Chrome Waist Strips down each side, Wire Wheels as standard and Later style Seats. This MkIIIA Sprite Presents Beautifully in Champion Red with Sparkling Chrome Wire Wheels and Bright-work, contrasting Black Interior with Red Piping on the Seats with Inertia Reel Seat Belts and also features a period style Wood-rim Steering Wheel and matching Wooden Gear Knob. Weather Protection is a Quality Black Fabric Soft-Top and Tonneau cover.
Mechanically this MkIIIA feels Tight and Willing, the 1098cc Engine breathing through the Twin HS2 SU Carburettors and delivering Good Torque with the Long Centre Branch Extractors to help it breathe well. The MkIII and MkIIIA Sprites benefit from the later and stronger ‘Ribcase’ Gearbox, which combined with the Strong Engine, Later Suspension and Disc Brakes up front, make this Sprite a Delightful car to Drive.
