1955 AC 2 LITRE SALOON
LMCT 7819
SN:4404
(To be sold Unregistered & with Vic RWC)
ONE OF ONLY 48 HAND-BUILT SALOONS
AC Cars was originally incorporated as Auto-Carriers Ltd, established in 1901 with its first vehicle, a 648cc powered 3-wheel delivery van, designed to replace it’s pedal powered competition. In 1922 AC introduced their Aluminium, cross flow 2-Litre 6 cylinder engine, that was sporting and flexible enough to be used into the 60s, including in the aptly named AC 2 Litre.
This AC was sold on the 1st of October 1955, to a Miss Ovin of Liphook, Hampshire and is one of only 48 coachbuilt luxury sports saloons made in Thames Diton, Surrey, England and features an aluminium body on a wooden ash frame.
In the late 1980s/early 1990s the AC underwent a comprehensive body-off restoration, including an all new wooden body framework, before being displayed at a car museum in Greece for 10 years. The Saloon returned to England in 2005 where it remained until 2021 when it was imported to Australia by a local enthusiast.
The body is finished in Ford ‘Galaxy Blue’ with shining brightwork complementing the period split front and rear windscreens. The contrasting interior features beige leather and walnut trim, beige dials and under-dash shelf. The AC features its original, numbers matching engine, factory supplied took kit & jack and is accompanied by a detailed photographic history file of the restoration.
Since its arrival in Australia mechanical works have included a brake overhaul, tune of the carburettors, new radiator core and a spin on oil filter conversion. The AC will provide very comfortable and stylish touring for you and your friends in a true classic British saloon.
