1985 marked a significant year in Porsche 911 history, it signified the introduction of the “491 – Turbo Look’ option for both Cabriolet and Targa bodies styles, adding to Coupe, which was Introduced a year earlier in 1984, as well as it marked the last year of the high horse power (231hp) 3.2 in Australia, as in 1986 we received US specification, emission controlled engines, rated at 217hp from 1986 onward.

A total of just 8 right hand drive ‘491 Widebody’ Cabriolets were sold new in 1985, with 1 sold to the UK and 7 sold to Australia. This Melbourne delivered 1985 3.2 Carrera Widebody Cabriolet was sold new by Hamiltons of South Yarra on the 20th of September in 1985 to Thomas Warwick & Co. P/L.

Finished in Dark Blue (Dunkleblau) with a Dark Blue fabric roof with options as follows: 470 Without spoilers, 491 Turbo look, 559 Air-conditioning, 018 Leather steering wheel with centre extended 30mm, 341 Central Locking, making this Dunkleblau Cabrio, the only original RHD 1985 ‘491’ without the over the top Turbo Tail, optioned specifically so as to not just look like a Turbo replica, but as a Factory Widebody 3.2 Carerra.

Since delivery, the Cabrio has been Serviced by some of Victoria’s best known Porsche specialists. The service record indicates that the 911 saw limited use over some lengthy periods and therefore extended service intervals. To keep this 911 is in top condition, in 2022 it was sent to Harrisons RRR (Porsche Specialist) for complete inspection and rectification work as necessary and has travelled a mere ~6,000 km since.

The engine was removed and overhauled as required, with all new valves, valve guides, timing chain & guides, piston rings, main and big-end bearings, con-rod bolts and nuts, head studs and cylinder heads machined and numerous other mechanical works also carried out.

The interior trim was also refurbished in 2022 by Sports & Specialist Trimming in Richmond with a new high quality fabric hood and lining, carpets, recovered steering wheel and leather seat inserts, bringing this Cabrio up to the condition it deserves.
